Show & Tell: Tea Anyone?

I don't drink tea, I don't like it, never have, BUT I had to have this little 'tea kettle' when I saw it at Goodwill for a $1
(I use it to heat water for instant oatmeal)
Posted by Picasa

AND I had to have this HUGE tea cup planter! I've had my eye on these, and for my Easter present to myself, I choose this one (and a bamboo lazy Susan), there were some really cute spring colored ones, but I think these colors will work during all seasons.

So, plop in a plant, and my table is all decked out!!!
(plant is a new fangled airplane plant with a super cool orangish center)

Ta-da! And lately, with hubby and I eating alone together at the table everynight
(part of our new dedication to each other),
it really is 'Tea For Two'

Have a great weekend!!!!

View from my kitchen window

I'm going for a Jane of the Jungle feel (I'm pretending I'm Jane).
I like the sun coming in,
but my view is the drive (ugly),the neighbor's drive, and the road. Nothing exciting.
I want privacy-and still have light.
With green green green!
Soooooo...
This has been a work in progress.
Before I stated that the window ledge is too small (actually there is NO sill).

Also that I wanted some sort of shelving for plants.
Also that two plants were doing well in the window

(philo (who I call Phil) and Hoya Aloha).

08/09/08 Hubby put this shelf in.

Its not the prettiest but it is sturdy and will allow for drainage and air circulation.
The shelf had to be attached at the wall-which mushes the mini blinds.
The shelf is so high it interferes with the curtains, that I really liked, but I was able to use the curtains to add to the big window by the table.
The shelf is super strong and I can put really heavy stuff on it (BIG SMILE).
Now, the biggest concern....

WHAT DO I PUT ON IT??????
So I decided for today, to just clean up what I have and stick it up there. I think I'm going with a rectangle shaped self-watering pot, it will fit perfectly. I thought I had some but I guess I'll ck out Wal-mart next time I'm there.
UPDATE:
I went to Walmart and bought this dirt:
(I'm adding perlite to the succulent pot)

and this pot: these guys are going in this self-watering pot from Walmart.

l to r:
2 spiders,
jews,
white arrowhead,
philo-all like the same watering.

I went ahead and potted up the window sill pot (hubby plans on putting a 1x6 in when he gets home-ihopeihopeihope:)

l to r: 2 angel wing begonia starts, little mother-in-law starts, 1 graz philo start, 3 SAD mini roses, & sad peek-a-boo.
I think (later) I will plant my succulents in the other pot-I like the look so far:)

That AND put the cover back on the ugly light bulb.
You will notice its fluorescent-we are very green here. lol

The livingroom friends: (houseplants)

Our living room is currently VERY bright-receiving both East & Western sun through big windows the plants love it! {Hopefully they will still love it when I find the right curtains to go over the sheers we have now, because all though the plants love it-our air conditioner DOESN'T!:}

On hubby's (empty) 75 gallon fish tank is a pot of var pothos (from when my dad's funeral), lil philo, swiss cheese (from FTW plant swap:)-this baby is buggy and currently under treatment. Looks like its working.

On the corner section of the couch-left to right: a really cool airplane plant with wonderful orange highlights (had to find the perfect spot for this one, bright light but not FULL sun), var peace lily (after being totally tortured it is completely growing back and likes this spot), and this tag less wonder (the generic tag said 'tropical bright light' which I took to mean full sun-NOT it burned up on my front porch-actually everywhere I put it outside was too sunny-but in the living room it gets the light and loving it needs) {I guess you could say I 'pre-tortured' all three of these-and they forgave me-so they are now pets}

Kitchen friends (houseplants): Hoya stripes

Look at the growth! This is a slow grower, grown for leaves more than blooms, leaves are thick and succulent like, new growth is first the stem, then the leaves. She likes to dry out between watering-and sunny but not full sun (hence the sunburnt leaves from being outside). I'm very impressed!
(click-able pictures)

Kitchen friends (houseplants)

I love plants in the kitchen window! I grew up with my mom (and grandma for that matter) having beautiful houseplants in the kitchen window. Mom's window was FULL of pothos growing in a donkey cart/planter, and jars and glasses of starts (made the chore of dish washing easier:). So, naturally I want the same tropical feel over my sink. I want a full window that blocks out the view, yet lets in light, AND doesn't wack you in the head (me that is-I'm the dishwasher). Our kitchen window here has a tiny ledge and we haven't decided what to do about that yet. Probably extend it with a 1x6" ledge. These plants currently hang from a broom handle that spands the space between the cabinet tops. We will probably hang a wire shelf across the window. But for now-these babies make me smile!
