"King of Da Road"

As future empty nesters, hubby and I hope to 'runaway' every now and then alone, together. (yes the key word is alone:)
We will take our bassets, hubby and I hitting the road.

We wanted a camper, BUT wanted cheap and sturdy.

I really don't want to pull a camper (not so comfortable about that), and hubby wanted to be able to take a boat.

So we were looking at slide-ins.

We took a weekend and checked out many campers on Craigslist.

We found the perfect one about 3 hours away.

(and had a great weekend together to boot)

The next weekend (during a hail and tornado producing storm system) hubby and the boys
went to bring my camper home.

I say my camper because it was bought with my babysitting money.

They put it on a trailer (the jacks punctured a couple of trailer tires), and after they replaced the tires, the wind was blowing so hard they decided to stay over in a hotel.

Next day my baby came home!!!

My super smart hubby backed it up to the drive way, jacked it up, hooked it up,

aired it up, pulled it off,
(this is my hubby's 'deep in thought pose', when you see this, give the man his space, BIG solutions are being created)
Then backed it into the drive way.

Be-U-T-Ful!!

Door-great shape, screen door-great shape, ladder-loose, windows-intact (one needs the crank reattached or replaced)

Come on inside!!!

Open door to toilet, shower, sink (yes it has its own bathroom:)

We have to replace the water hook-up, so we don't know if the water works yet. It has TWO water tanks, AND a hot water heater.

Skinny closet, cool blue stove, double sink. Retro design? 1973 baby:)

The stove is propane and everything works:)

Queen bed loft (long enough for my tall hubby:), with lots of storage cabinets

The fridge works on electricity or propane.

The dinette is a bed, and so is the cabinet above it.

The material is intact, came with curtains, sheets, even pillows.

The electricity and propane work through out.

There was water damage before, so some of the wood and siding need to be replaced, and a cover over one of the vents. The roof needs to be resealed. It came on a pickup truck bed trailer, so it has a place to sit when we are not using it (I really don't trust the jacks long term). AND if we choose to sell it as is I feel I can get my money back out of it.

As you can see, the Queen approves:)

Ah, King o' the Road!!
Trailer for sale or rent
Rooms to let...fifty cents.
No phone,
No pool,
No pets,
I ain't got no cigarettes.
Ah, but..two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.
Third boxcar,
Midnight train
Destination...Bangor, Maine.
Old worn out clothes and shoes,
I don't pay no union dues,
I smoke old stogies I have found
Short,
But not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.
I know every engineer on every train
All of their children,
And all of their names
And every handout in every town
And every lock that ain't locked
When no one's around.
I sing,
Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let,
Fifty cents
No phone,
No pool,
No pets,

I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means

King of the road.

  4. Oh, you are gonna make me post about our camper, it's a long story, straight from the Griswolds (Vacation, Chevy Chase). Funny now, but made me furious at the time. I'll tell the WHOLE story later.

  7. Oh no, you've got me in the mood to camp. We used to camp, we had a hard sided pop up first, then a regular camper. It was fun while it lasted. The kids grew up and weren't interested any more. It's really fun, though some people think otherwise, it can get expensive.

  9. I love that song. Haven't heard it in ages.

Looks just like the trailer hubby and I bought way back when we were first married. We loved it! Ended up selling it to pay off the wedding ring, but it was great while it lasted. Now we have our trailer and I can't wait to use it again.
