Show & Tell: Barbara Manatee...

Show and Tell
Thanks for joining me! Join others for Show & Tell!

My kids were raised on Veggie Tales videos, we collected them for Sunday viewing.

One year (I always tried to find FIVE different similar things to buy for holidays, since we had five at home), I found five different animal shaped pillows. The manatee was for my oldest, he thought he was too old, and gave it back to me. EVERYONE fought over this pillow because it was always in the living room (they didn't want to go all the way to their rooms and find their pillows).
THEN Veggie Tales had a 'Barbara Manatee' song!

The 'just a stuffed pillow' became 'Barbara'!!!
{modeling here with my Sisi}

When someone was sick, there was Barbara,
When someone's pillow went missing, there was Barbara,
When someone was silly, there was Barbara!
When my step-son (Mike) was visiting his birth-mom, we stayed by the phone in case something went wrong and he called. Barbara and Mike's favorite blanket were located in case a quick trip was needed.
(thank goodness it never was, BUT Barbara was ready!)

Then when we had an eight year old foster-son, who suddenly got scared at bedtime, it was Mike that handed over Barbara. Later I bought each foster-son their own animal shaped pillow, but when they left, it was Barbara they wanted (actually they fought over her constantly, and she stayed with me:).

Barbara is old now, and still loved by all. Barbara should be on the couch, but a quick check shows she is right where she BELONGS, in Mike (20yo) and Taylor's (18 yo) room.

"Barbara Manatee, you are the one for me
Sent from up above
You are the one I love!!!"

  18. Cute story! I had a duck pillow my friend made for me in high school. It went with me to all of my hospital stays and even accompanied me when I had all four of my babies! It's now long gone and worn out but it had become my hospital pillow and I always got fun comments on it! I figure anything that makes you feel good is okay for a prolonged hospital stay, right! LOL!

  20. Oh my goodness!!! There was a manatee pillow??!! Why do I not ever know these things?! We have almost every veggie tale ever made and the songbook so we can play it on the piano. It would be sooooocool to have a Barbara Manatee!!

And..I love your joy in providing comforts for yours and others children--you are a gem!

  21. That was a very fun show and tell. How wonderful that you have fostered children along the way--extra blessings to you. We have considered doing that, but I always chicken out in the fear that I will become too attached--I do that too easily. I substitute at my girl's school and want to bring kid's home when I hear or know about their home-life. I can't let it go---hope you have a wonderful weekend. Julie
