Its a blue blue Christmas...

At my mom's our Princess Blu has been reunited with her 1/2 sister, Moxie (on left).
Moxie, also our Froggie's kitten, was born just a few months after Blu.
Moxie was the runt in a large litter, but, like her name says, she has Moxie.

How do you tell these girls apart?

Easy...Moxie has a sweet round face, soft meow, and is very timid.
Blu has more of a sour face, sour meow, and (often) sour and take no crap off of anycat attitude.

Love my Blu girl.

Our fine leader, Queen Uno, has settled in nicely at her old home place.

As a kitten she was born at our house,

then spent her first few months here at my mom's lake house,

Uno spent all her time trying to get in the house, and was so happy when she returned to us, and was allowed in. Uno has always been an 'inside/outside' kitty.

Now, a decade later, she is back. (And mom has mellowed enough to allow our girl inside.)

It has been said you can't go home again, but as you see, Queen Uno has.

How blessed I am to have Uno in my life.
She is who I look for each time I come home, and am so thankful she is at mom's where kitty love abounds.

Our most kind ruler, Queen Uno, held a press conference today to let all her loyal subjects know her current status.
With the death of her adopted daughter, Princess Froggie, and the large decision to relocate the kingdom, our Queen has had quite a lengthy hiatus.
The public was pleased to know all is well with their beloved Queen, and to hear it from her own sweet feline lips.

The Queen reports the relocation went well, and that she and her adopted granddaughter, Princess Blu, have settled in nicely and have resumed close attention to matters of state.

Seems like forever since we have blogged or done "Cats on Tuesday".

We completed our move to my mom's (THE crazy cat lady) Sept 1, then my uncle died, daughter moved closer, we moved the camper (our weekday home away from home while hubby works out of town), and MUCH activity with our other kids, not counting all the birthdays and holidays. Whew...

{Uno, Blu, and George update: I was worried about old Uno at mom's, but she has really made herself at home (of course SHE gets to come inside and eat privately, and we do cater to her every whem), Blu was doing great outside, BUT my mom decided Blu could come in and eat with Uno (Blu LOVES it), little kitten George (not pictured) is a total outside cat and beyond cute.
All is well in the land...all is well:)}

Anyways...
We don't have internet at mom's, so I'm in the process of moving my pics from my old computer to the laptop so I can blog during the week when at the camper.
I have so much to blog, so it should keep me pretty busy.
I have checked in on other bloggers, but since hubby's laptop is cranky, it didn't let me comment, so I've been more of a lurker than follower...
Plan on that changing this week:).

It is official, I set a date, told my landlord, and have begun the packing.
We are moving:).
We only planned on staying here until my youngest graduated (to keep him in this school district), and that was two and half years ago.
August in Texas is a terrible time to move (105 degrees and holding), but I'm doing it!!

Hubby is so agreeable, "you pack it, I'll move it" he says.
We have enjoyed ourselves here, but my mom's is where we really want to be.
Half our time will be at my mom's (old family home place), the other half with be with hubby in the camper (parked where he works two hours away).
My kitties aren't really interested one way or another.
Well, maybe the kitten, but Uno and Blu have other things on their minds.
Blu now plays with the kitten, George, but doesn't sleep with him yet.
He is a TOTAL pest, and completely perfect for our little kingdom.
Ok, back to packing...

TT: 08/04/11 Week In Review

Last Saturday, SS Mike (and wonderful friend Terry), DS DJ and GF Brittany came over to move some couches.

We went from NO couches (cause we gave ours to Mike), to TOO many couches.

DS DJ agreed to take a couch and loveseat, so we went ahead and put it in storage.

In the absence of Froggie, her daughter, Blu, has been playing TOO rough with old Uno (Froggie and Blu wrestled). So, I decided to get a kitten. The first week she just growled and hissed at him, but this week she is watching and stalking him. He, cute as a button, is totally oblivious. I named him George, as in George Clooney, or Georgie Porgie. Today the grands are here, and he has decided that maybe he DO NOT like squeezing!! All is well!

The Kingdom is sad to report the loss of a valued member of the Royal Family, Princess Frog Gee Girl has not returned from outlying Peasant Pooch Peace Talks.

Queen Uno's court: Princess Froggie, Princess Blu, Queen Uno 04/11

They join together to remember, and honor, their beloved Princess Frog-Gee-Girl.

Her daughter, Princess Blu, still recovering from her own injuries while interacting with the outlying Peasant Pooches, has removed herself from the public, taking some quiet time to reflect...

The Queen makes a quick appearance to address the public...

The Queen Mother, Uno, makes a public statement requesting truce.
The Queen honors her adopted daughter's efforts in the dangerous activity of Peasant Pooch conflicts.
The Queen calls for both sides, the Royal Feline, and outlying Peasant Pooch, to come together and end this turmoil.
No more violence, she says, let us live in a time of peace.
Let this be the last death.

She will be remembered for her fashion sense, her work as Peace Ambassador, her spunky spirit, her determination, her intelligence, her beauty inside as well as out.

I hate to report the missing and probable death of my two and a half year old tortie, Froggie.
In June my Blu kitty came home with puncture wounds on her mid-section.
Definitely from a dog.
Not our dogs, but some loose dogs in the neighborhood (because, apparently leash laws don't apply to them).
That same week Froggie disappeared.
I'm sure the dogs got her.
I hope she went fast.
I hate to think of her suffering.
Sadly that is a major drawback to having outside kitties, the world can be violent (just ask the creatures my kitties hunt and kill).
I'm really amazed I've had Uno so long (10+ years).

So, a little tribute to my girl:
Spunky, smart, evil, played too rough, had two back to back litters of 9 kittens before I got her fixed, marvelous daughter and mother, tolerant of grandkids, sweet snuggler, big purrer, master hunter...
We sure enjoyed our time with her.

TT: 07/21/11 Week In Review

Friday hubby was able to take DS Eric to his favorite college for a private tour.
(Nothing planned, the right people just happen to be available and willing to share.)

Eric is attending a junior college.
He and hubby had so much fun checking out the growth of this college campus, and all the options.
Be neat to see ~~if Eric takes the bait and goes to hubby's choice~~ what Eric decides.

Also Mr. Granddarling Kale stayed the weekend with us (while his daddy, SS Mike, was at drill).

Kale has always held his head to the left, never fully working out his muscles.
So, lately, for most of the day he wears a DocBand, a weighted helmet which causes him to use the neck and face muscles.
This is our second granddarling to wear one, and they are amazing.
In no time at all it will be like he never wore one at all.
And he is so young it really doesn't bother him at all.

Part of the time we take it off to 'dry' out his head.
At 7 mos he up to 3 teeth and is working on crawling and sitting up.

Also this week we are fostering a couple of dogs from one of my elderly friends.
She went to the hospital and it doesn't look good.
The chihuahua is regrowing her hair after her last litter.
At just 1.5 yrs she looks much older.
She is a very, very good dog. (and very very scared)

Because she can escape under our backyard fence, I took the little chi with basset LadyBelle to visit hubby at the camper.
(What a mess)

They ate separately because LadyBelle ~~is a food hog~~ has food issues
(probably from making sure she gets ANYTHING to eat at home around our fat basset Reba).

Ever helpful, LadyBelle polished off the chi's food too.
Hubby said the chi might actually be cute...
if she had hair:).

And even though we have toys at the camper, LadyBelle chose to STEAL a pair of gloves from the hubby's bag on the couch and destroy them.

Look at this face...could you tell her no? Us either:).

Outside the camper, planter Donut, and Flo the Flamingo were happily showing off the growth of the plants in their care.

I thought these were mini yellow Happy Day day lilies, but you can see they are not.
Oh well...

Tiny blooms on the rose moss...

I spent the morning ~~cleaning up after my slobby husband~~ tiding the camper, then checked to see, and am pleased to report that we have Internet at the camper!!! Woot Woot!!

Also I am one step closer to having all the supplies to clean the outside of the camper...maybe next week when I go back down...(I hope I hope I hope)

We are buying (one at a time) rubber mat stepping stones ($7 at Lowe's) to make our own portable walk way, and may be even a patio...

Sweet daughter, Misty, gave this to hubby for Father's day.
Its one that fits in your car window, and hubby was so pleased when it fit the camper window.

Our little (dirty) home away from home....

I am thankful to have DS Eric nearby, he is always delightful.

I missed him so much the four years he was away in the navy.

I am thankful we are close enough to watch GS Kale while his daddy serves our country locally.

I am thankful amazing doctors that notice what infants need so soon and have such wonderful methods to help them.

I am thankful for my hubby who works so hard for our family, and always has.

I am thankful for his job, and our camper which provides a safe, sweet little place for him to stay and me to visit during the week.

I am thankful for our sweet basset girl, LadyBelle, who brings a smile to hubby's face,

I am thankful for the freedom to visit him and the means to do so.

I am thankful for our history and our friendship.

FF: Milo and LadyBelle

Last time sweet basset, LadyBelle (our travel pup), and I went to visit 'daddy' at work out of town, we house sat my in-laws lovely lake house.
LadyBelle enjoyed the yard, the treats, the guest room (especially the huge-super soft king sized bed),
the cows, the black dog Forrest,

but NOT the red dog Ginny.
Ginny is a 'herder' and our LadyBelle did not appreciate being herded and having her fat little legs nipped at by this crazy border collie.
Every time Ginny came near, our poor basset tucked her tail and tried to not move, and to be invisible.
Poor baby.

Where hubby is working during the week (two hours away) flat farm land.

The Milo was in full color and I had to share.

I love how farmers plant in rows that just seem to go on and on,

And depending on where you stand the view is so different.

LadyBelle approved of our 'photo pit stop', and being able to move without fear of Ginny's teeth:).

Milo Sorghum Grain

Farmers on the hot, dry plains from Texas to South Dakota grow and use grain sorghum like Corn Belt farmers use corn. Large acreages of grain sorghum are also grown in Africa and Asia in areas where the climate is too hot and dry for corn.

I watched the grands while the 'girls' worked at the table.
Grandgirl, Katherine's quilt was tacked first and she TOTALLY approved of the Dora print mom found.

So much fun to have most of my girls together, and four of our six grandbabies together.

Then Saturday, we picked up (visiting from MD son) Tay, and Mike and grandboy Kale, to attend son DJ's promotion at drill.

DJ wanted Tay to pin him, and even tho this really wasn't a 'family' thing, it was great to be there.

We left DJ to do his drill stuff, and went to IHOP:), woohoo IHOP pancakes!!!

Because not much new is happening here, I have decided to spotlight some old reliables (currently that is what I am most interested in, old reliables).

Datura: Angel Trumpet

We call them Angel Trumpet or Moon flower, and can always count on them to shine.
Evening til sunrise bloomers, gray green leaves, large blooms, sweetly scented, low growing, drought tolerant.
I understand they are very toxic, so keep that in mind.
Here they re-seed, and I know in some areas the are a pest.

But, for right now, in my yard they are delightful.

Datura stramonium, known by the common names jimson weed, devil's trumpet, devil's weed, thorn apple, tolguacha, Jamestown weed, stinkweed, locoweed, datura, pricklyburr, devil's cucumber, hell's bells, moonflower and, in South Africa, malpitte and mad seeds, is a common weed in the Solanaceae (nightshade) family.

It is an erect annual herb forming a bush up to 3–5 ft (1–1.5 m) tall.[2] The leaves are soft, irregularly undulate, and toothed. The fragrant flowers are trumpet-shaped, white to creamy or violet, and 2.5 to 3.5 in. long. They rarely open completely. The egg-shaped seed capsule is walnut-sized and either covered with spines or bald. At maturity it splits into four chambers, each with dozens of small black seeds.

This year, for the fourth, we had a two family gatherings.

One was at my paternal aunt's, one at my mom's.
There was much food, much fellowship, and much love to go around...

Added purslane, rose moss, small Shepard's hook, small wind chime, and metal flower stake to planter...

Flo and Donut hit it off great, and Donut even shared some of her red white and blue bling, and let Flo hop on her back, giving Flo a much needed break from the hard, hot, rocky drive.

Add in a Ladybelle basset camper mascot and you are ready for anything!!

We were super ready to be home.
The dogs were super excited too.

On our 'workcation' in Maryland, our son wanted us to go to Arlington Cemetery and Monuments in Washington DC.
I had never been and was very excited...
The weather was overcast, warm, and lovely...

The cemetery was lovely, and so was the look out from John F. Kennedy's burial place. We didn't see all the cemetery, or go to the grave of the unknown solider. Everyone was so nice and reverent.
With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own John F Kennedy

The (long) walk toward the Potomac River, was lined with huge statues of every war.

Impressive.
We happened to be there on Rolling Thunder 2011, a HUGE motorcycle rally on the Capitol in memory of all soldiers.
The web said over 40,000 and I believe it.
WOW.
Beautiful, moving, and loud.
VERY loud.
We finally found our way across the street to the monuments.

I love Abraham Lincoln.
So cool to see so many reading his amazing words of wisdom printed on the walls of the basement area.
Also there is a great view of more monuments.
I first thought the Capitol was the White House.

Actually that is the World War II Memorial, shaped like a Roman Colosseum, it is amazing...
We decided that was as far as we could go...
So the menfolk walked the miles back to the truck and picked us girls up:).
Nice to be a girl.
We tried to drive by the White House (sweet hubby actually drove by THREE times), it is tucked in between two HUGE buildings, off the road, and you have to walk to it.
By that time we didn't want to walk another step.
And that is ok.

A Walk In The Park...

Recently, hubs and I were able to visit our youngest son, Taylor, his wife Lindsey, and our year and a half grandgirl Katherine in Maryland.
Tay took us to a cool lake/park with an awesome walking/bike path.
Maryland is right in their spring, unlike Texas that is summery, so everything was cool and green.

The apartments that bordered one side of the lake had mature gardens, and this Kousa Dogwood knocked my socks off!!

I have never seen Peonies in real life.

If I lived up north, I would have LOTS of peonies.

One side of the park bordered a thicket where we saw geese parents, and their gosling babies.

Then I saw this beauty. What is it?
Looks like our privets, but the blooms drape more.

(I liked it so much I went back and took a cutting, it graced my kids' table til we left, then it rode the 1400 mile trip back to Texas in the back door of the truck.
No one even blinked an eye.
Guess they are used to my plant adventures by now...
or at least they SHOULD be...)

Workcation!!
Day Five: Maryland!!!
This is where hubby needed to actually 'work',
so we stayed a whole five days at my son, Taylor, wife Lindsey, and one and a half year old grandgirl's.

Katherine is not one to smile for the camera...I really had my work cut out for me:).

One day we dressed up and had lunch with hubs and Tay.
Katherine loves her little purse.

Most of our time was just enjoying this sweet family.

One day we went to a lake/park with a great wide concrete path to walk around the lake.

Wonderful.

Birthday Wish Come True...pt 1

For the first time in probably my whole life, I left my home for TWO WEEKS!!!
TWO WEEKS!!
Hub's work allowed us a two week workcation and we were super excited!!!
For my 45th birthday, I REALLY wanted to go see my step-son Aaron, and step-daughter Tiffany (and fam), which I haven't seen in three and a half years.
This made it possible.
AND as a bonus, we were going to be able to see my baby Taylor (and fam) who moved in January.

Looks like we are moving doesn't it?

Everything went except the couch:)

We were driving in a truck so we had lots of room to take 'extra' stuff that my son left behind when he moved in January.

My son, Taylor, talked hub into bringing him a basset puppy.
It just so happened the breeder who we bought our Ladybelle from had a new litter,
AND it was on the way, so we stopped and picked up this darling.
Day One: we left Texas, and made it all the way to Kansas.

We detoured to John Wayne's birthplace.
Hubs loves the John Wayne, and so does the son we are visiting last.
We had to have a picture of his new puppy in front of the Duke's home.
We didn't inside for the guided tour, we really wanted to keep going...

How wonderful to see Step-daughter, Tiffany, her hubby Colyn, and darling four and a half grandgirl Audrey!!!!

Audrey modeled all her 'school work' for us (what a beautiful ham:),

loved the puppy (so did her mom and dad:),

counted to 50:),

drew us orange juice with extra fruit,

and was just darling.

Whenever I'm missing Blu, I just check the towels above the toliet.
I have keep them stacked pretty high to keep her out.
She has been know to knock them ALL off into the toliet.
Makes me NONE too happy.

Donut

Once upon a time we had just the right property for goats.
I love goats.
I would much rather have goats eat tall grass down, than mow it.
Also their manure is very mild, and you don't have to wait til it ages to use it.

We loaded up the (teen) kids and went to the sale-barn.
I don't remember how many we bought,
but I do remember most were mini-sized,
and one was a long-legged, long-eared Nubian.
The plan was to buy a lot cheap, and weed out the ones we didn't want.

We named them alphabetically,
and the soft brown, doe-eyed,
long eared Nubian was named "Chocolate Donut".

Later it was shortened to "Donut".
Donut was the bottom of the pecking order,
even the smallest goat would stand on her and butt her in the head.
Very funny, and very sad.
We eventually sold all the goats but our Donut.

Donut wasn't like the other goats.
She didn't run in a pack.
She didn't cry if she was left alone.
Actually she didn't hardly cry at all.
Maybe soft a "naa" if you approached her.

She didn't butt you, or try to escape her pen or lead.
She like to have the kids lay on her and pet her.
One day our Donut disappeared.
Our guess was the mountain lion took her.
Hopefully she didn't suffer.
What a gentle soul.

When we moved from that house,
restrictions didn't allow for goats.
Hubby and I found this metal planter,
and I thought of her.
My Donut.
I figure she could be our camper mascot.
Right now she is my front porch mascot.

"See Donut?" I said to my (adult) kids when they came over,
as I pointed to my new planter.
They knew just what I meant.

Donut is planted with easy, hardy, low water plants.
Sedums, Small Happy Day Daylily, and a mini-Rose.

It is filling in great.

I will probably be taking it to the camper in June.
And I think I will tie a pretty colored ribbon or rope around my Donut's neck:)

Once upon a time I had a sweet baby doll (just a mere FORTY years ago.)
I loved her, and she loved me.
Actually, I loved her to death.
Sooooo, thanks to EBAY I have bought a replacement.
(because I didn't wait until the perfect match came along,
I first bought two little ones that were close)

Close but not exact.

Isn't she precious?
She has no tears, no clothes, and needs a bath.
I am in love.
My old one was named Suzy, this will be Suzy II.

Rocky Mountain High 03/11

Usually, every year, hubby and I take a little trip to the coast.

This year, however, we went a different direction, we went North.
Northwest from East Texas, North to Denver, then West into the Rocky Mountains.

This was a working vacation for hubby.

(ALL vacation for me:)

Tiny Minor's Cabin, Builder's Model Home

Our in-laws are re-doing their little (darling) Minor's cabin,

and the builder they are using does some amazing work.

We were able to go see some of his creations.

WOW.

I can't wait to see what they design together.

The landscape was interesting,

and we saw this group of mountain sheep nearly everyday.

Hubby was able to sneak up and get this close-up of MR. Ram.
Great shot.
I think this herd was more of a domestic group,
every time we went to the model house they were there.
While hubby was inside talking 'shop' with the builder,
I was able to sit outside in our truck and watch SheepTV.
(Very relaxing)

We stayed at a casino in BlackHawk (impressive),
where there wasn't much snow on the ground,
but just around the corner the snow was 5 foot deep.

Hubby and I went for a little walk along the creek

(I call them rivers, but the Colorado folks call them 'creeks').
Walking with the hubs is sooooooooooo romantic...

Frozen waterfall, romantic walks with hubby, great purple paint action in Georgetown, Co.

Hubby and In-Laws did the pre-build leg work in such a sweet Georgetown, set in a valley,
and the weather was so beautiful,
I was able to spend hours walking up and down the streets looking at the darling small Victorian houses and shops.
Almost every building had some purple on it, and I love purple.

Our 'work-cation' ended with a marvelous evening at the Denver, Colorado Temple.

Every April 11th, for 23 years, my sweetie has scoured the local fields and ditches for this beautiful wildflower, the Indian Paintbrush (my most favorite flower).
He looks for the fullest, brightest blooms, and each year adds one more bloom...

Tomatoes 05/11

This is planted in one of those garden tote things on wheels, in case I decide to take it to the camper.

It has one Speckled Roman Roma (in back), three Sweet'n Neat Scarlet tomatoes (in front), Homestead Purple Verbena, Crimson w/eye Verbena, Boxwood Basil, and a Lilac colored periwinkle.

These little Sweet'n Neat (cherry) tomatoes only get 18" tall:).
I found them on sale and think this size is perfect for this pot.
(they also had a Tumbling Tom but I think this upright mini tomato plant will work better for me)

Hubby loves the red-I love the purple...

All Walmart had was this brown or black so I picked brown.
They USED to have really bright colored totes.

I planted (left) two Arkansas Traveler tomatoes (med pink size), and beefstakes (right front) Mortgage Lifter, (back right) Old German Tomatoes.
Also yellow squashes...

See the little green sticks near the edge?
I accidentally broke off my Old German and Mortgage Lifter Tomato plants and, because they have such great root systems, I hope they recover...

But I'm rooting the tops as back up.

Cherry tomatoes: (left two) Orange Sunsugar, (back) Yellow Pear, (right) Red Juliet; basil, sweet yellow pepper, marigolds...

I didn't want lots of one type of tomato plants, I wanted less but special heirloom tomatoes.
I went to the plant store after 4 tomato plants: 1 beefstake, 1 roma, 1 red cherry, 1 yellow pear cherry tomatoes.
I came home with 13 tomato plants: 4 beefstakes, 1 roma, and 4 cherry tomatoes, 4 Sweet'n Neat mini cherry tomatoes.
(and I had to really narrow it down:)
Even tho our Spring season seems to be running late,
most people in our area are already harvesting tomatoes, we start early here in East Texas.

Except for the Yellow Pear Cherry tomato, we haven't tried these types and we are really excited.

The Saturday before Easter Sunday, we do Easter at my mom's.
Mom has decided we need to celebrate birthdays twice a year, so the first half of the year-rs had cake.

Best part of this was the 'team' it took to like those candles!!
Look at the cake all 'ablaze.'
Happy Birthday Mom, Uncle Gary, Aunt Rena, Son-in-law Ralph, and Uncle Fred:).

Grandkids LauraJune (4), David (3) and Jeremiah (1.5) had a blast doing eggs.
This always proves entertaining.

This was Miah's first Easter egg hunt and he was precious!!
The weather was great, and the grandkids had so much fun!!

Spending the day with these granddarlings is the best!!!

Part of the fun of this camper has been searching high and low for the 'perfect' (cheap) camper furnishings:
I'm usually down there Monday-Wednesday, and I know every thrift/dollar/clearance store between here and there:

(before we changed bed placement in bedroom)

I found this cool tiger blanket for hubby for $5.00.
He loves it, and I like it on top of the bed to hide the basset hair Lady provides.:)

(After we moved the bed sideways)

I got this neat blue and red comforter for $3.00.
I was hoping it would fit my bed at home, but its too small.
This bed is a regular size and it fits perfectly.

We have an extra faucet hook up in back and I brought along this from home, I'm hoping our next trip down will lead to some roof/siding cleaning;).

Got a long flow-thru brush for that planned cleaning too.
Also some foam to go in the window where hubby has the dish cable run.

While at Goodwill with my daughter, she pointed out these A&M pillows.
Hubby loves A&M.
I love maroon and my daughter commented I could do the whole camper in Aggie colors and BOTH hubby and I would be happy.
He agreed,
I'm not so sure...

At the DollarTree (everything is a dollar store) I found this small dish drain rack and matching wash tub.
I love how it fits on this corner and still leaves so much of the kitchen space open.
I'd like to find a way to make a little ledge or something to make it more stable.
(I also LOVE my solar lantern-it needs a better place too.)

LOVE these DollarTree hooks!!!
I bought quite a few and plan on having them in every room of the camper.

So far so good in the kitchen area;). I want to do more organizing with shelves and hooks, but haven't decided exactly what I want yet...

I bought this cast iron griddle, and these measuring scoops.

I want to figure out a way to put the scoops on the wall for easy access.

I saw some one pulling one of these and had to ask where they got it.
Walmart of course.
Small, with wheels this is just the right size for transporting food back and forth.

And, because I couldn't stand NO greenery, I found the perfect solution, that bamboo stuff that lives in water.
I put pretty glass marbles in it, and fake orchid type flowers.

THEN I decided my ZZ plant would do well too...

Added some fake red poppies (which hubby decided the poppies were a good choice for him because the grands call him Poppy;) and it is well on its way.

Camper Surprise

I came 'home' to the camper to find hubby there and our bed frame in the yard.

Hubby (my favorite handyman) decided to move the bed from the middle of the room, turn it, put it in the corner, making LOTS more walking room.
Go hubby!!

2x4=very sturdy!!

We just leaned the nightstand in the corner.

Look at all that room!!!

One modification down, many more to go!! (thanks hubby dear:)

On The Road Again...

Last year hubby was working 2 hrs away and we were able to park our camper locally so he didn't have to drive so far.
Staying with him was fun too...
at the end of the year we decided to bring the camper home, then earlier this year it was time to load her up and take her back to Corsicana, TX.

Miss LadyBelle rode with me as we followed 'daddy' pulling the camper...
(hubby thinks I'm the one that is so fond of Lady, not even realizing how excited HE gets when he finds out she is coming to see him)

What a sweet face:)

This is our RV park from the lake.

Last time we were on the other side, then a spot on the 'lake side' opened up and we love it.
More of a lake view, and a large grassy knoll behind the camper.
All bills paid, yard care provided, quiet safe place, no wonder so many people take up living in RVs.

She is so lovely.
If I had a disaster, and the government pulled up with one of these to tide me over, I think I'd be pretty happy.
Who ever had this one took good care of it.

A big selling point was the full size fridge.

To the left are two very long bunk beds, straight ahead the toilet/tub, sink and cabinet to right.

Bathroom: toilet, tub/shower.
(Later I will jazz it up with a cooler shower curtain.)
This is a park model, so no holding tanks.

Looking back.
I love the neutral colors.
I love the vinyl on the floor too.

Bathroom sink and medicine cabinet (complete waste of space in my opinion).

Big closet/cabinet (I want to add shelves in here soon), kitchen.

Kitchen, LOVE the counter space between the sink and stove top.
Also love the large sinks.
Everything works great.

FEMA(camper)=family=fun

Last August we took our 'new' FEMA camper on its maiden voyage.
We had previously checked out a local state park (Caddo Lake State Park) and really looked forward to going, just hubby, myself, and our 'new' camper, and the new basset puppy.

Daughter, Misty, and family asked to join us...
too cool!
She offered to provide all the food (yummmmy),
son-in-law Ralph was a wonderful helping hand,
and those grandkids provided ALL the entertainment.

The air conditioner metal cover thingy was smashed in, so my men-folk climbed up there and covered the hole with a box
(thank goodness I ALWAYS have cardboard boxes around;).
We used 2x4s to hold our little portable air conditioner in place.
We used BOTH air conditioners (just in case) and needless to say we woke up freezing.
(FREEZING)

Inside our camper.

Outside, David and LauraJune found a place where the air conditioner drips off the roof and had so much fun gathering little pots of water (one drip at a time), they played for hours with the water.
Every time Misty changed them out of their wet stuff they went right back to the water.

They figured out they could make little wet hand prints on the back bumper...darling...

We forgot the wading pool, so Misty filled the big cooler with water and oh the fun that was had...

The bugs weren't too bad,
and the grands were grand...
(Caddo Lake State Park has a FREE, cool hands on museum thingy)...

Misty brought her pooch (blue heeler/lab mix) which is the BEST dog ever,
and we took our basset puppy LadyBelle.
We kept LadyBelle wore out.
I don't know who napped more, her or the grands.

What did we learn?
It pulls great.
The water hose used for hooking up needs to be high pressure. (or it will SPLIT)
The door to the bedroom is in the way when the couch is pulled out.
Check ALL windows and vents before leaving (thank goodness my daughter's fam was following us to let us know we had left them open.)
Duct tape is wonderful.
Who you call to make reservations is not necessarily on-site. (I called a switchboard, and the guy said it was on the water, and it wasn't.)
Make sure you ask about water, electric, sewer hook up. (I didn't get sewer hook up, so we used the woods or walked down to the potty)
If you invite others, they can pull the boat for you;).
Life is just better with loved ones.
(We never really camped with our kids when they were little, and we should have.
It is a big regret I have. But we can now, and I'm very excited:)

Camper Tales

First we purchased a slide-in cabover truck camper (here: Cabover camper).
My dream was to travel and have a place to pull over and sleep.
(By travel I mean go to see my kids in other towns or states.)
How cool would it be to just load up and go..
.stopping anywhere you want and eating a meal or catching a nap.
(I hate spending money to stay at motels.)
Our King Of The Road Cabover needed lots of love (the whole skin replaced) so instead we bought another one:
A newer, BIGGER Coachmen Cabover.
All mauve inside~SO pretty.

It, too, needed repair, so we bought:

This cool, old, larger travel trailer. Big bathroom, LOTS of cabinets.
I couldn't believe how big it was.
(I had wanted something I could drive, and that is now ruled out;)

Then hubby called one day to tell me he bid on this.
A 2006 FEMA travel trailer.
He won the bid, and home it came.
So big and so pretty!!! Let the good times roll!
(We sold all our others so this is it, however, I'm thinking I would like a camper van, so we could use it to visit our kiddos all the way in Wisconsin and Maryland. We'll see;)

Strawberry Tower Re-do

Last year I planted my strawberry plants in one of those hanging pot tower things.
I didn't do well with the watering, and many died.

But those that lived did really well.

So, in March, I decided to try the pot stacking method (seen somewhere).
(you can see how the meshy strawberry tower just fell apart)

The small pot is just set in the larger one. (notice Princess Blu, my helper kitty)

I also bought a pink blooming one (most strawberries bloom white),
hubby says the strawberry was very sweet,
and since these are for him, that is what matters...mostly:).

04/29/11 This set up is doing great. Some of the sad, dried up strawberry plants didn't make it. .

Watering from the top is easy, and I think all the plants are getting what they need.

top: Lemon Balm, Pink Blooming Ever bearing Strawberry; bottom: White Blooming Ever bearing Strawberries and Sedum.

I do want to add some more June bearing, most of what I have is Ever bearing, which is very sporadic.

Very pretty.
